Chairman of EgyptAir’s Board of Directors Hussein Masoud hit back at claims of poor service and lack of comfort made in a BusinessInsider.com piece entitled “The 10 Worst Airlines in the World”.

BusinessInsider.com stated that EgyptAir was rated the ninth worst airline in the world describing its “service crew to be inattentive, the seats uncomfortable and plane bathrooms dirty.”

The chairman stressed that EgyptAir is not ranked the ninth worst airline in the world, pointing out that the Egyptian airline is part of the global Star Alliance which imposes strict standards on those seeking accession.

Masoud stressed that EgyptAir is considered to be one of the largest airlines operating in both Africa and the Middle East, making BusinessInsider.com’s claims invalid.

Moreover, he accused the business news site of not carrying out any scientific inquiry in this particular category. He emphasised his point, saying that other companies are considered to be some of the best global airlines given their existing alliances, yet they are placed on the same list with EgyptAir.

He added that such ratings are nothing but an unacceptable method to give competitors an unfair advantage.

EgyptAir
I regularly fly on a variety airlines and have travelled to over 40 countries. I have had the great misfortune to fly EgyptAir twice; never again!!!! On a flight from Bangkok to Cairo in February, the crew blocked out a total of 18 seats at the rear of the plane, so that they could sleep! There's nothing more disgusting than having a big Egyptian male flight attendant, smelly feet sticking out, sprawled out across 3 seats right in the row in front of you, snoring away, while you're jammed into a rear cabin, non-reclining seat. Passengers were outraged and very vocal about it. But, the crew could have cared less. Add to this dirty washrooms, rude, unattractive cabin crew, bad service and terrible food and you have the makings of the worst experience on any airline in the world.

The rating is accurate
I fully agree that Egyptair is undoubtedly one of the worst airlines in the world. Besides dirty bathrooms and inattentive, arrogant, rude flight attendants, there are other shoddy services that makes me wonder how is it in Star Alliance rubbing shoulders with Singapore Airlines?? Once, the baggage for one flight was arriving on two belts simultaneously, forcing passengers to run helter-skelter, as if it was a guessing game!! Even the Egyptians were embarrassed with such pathetic service given by the country's flagship carrier.

egypt air
N.salama , France : I like flying with egypt air, sincerely i never met cabin crew so nice and helpful, I've been travelling with egypt air for 25 years, and with young children it's much easier than with air france for example or american airlines or british airways(from my experience), the flights are no more delayed than the others., nor dirtier.I don't agree with this ranking and neither with this new fashion of ranking everything)

Agree!
I regularly fly EgyptAir simply because I'm a South African residing in Egypt, and have an EgyptPlus card, allowing me to earn voyager miles. The flight attendants are unfriendly and unhelpful. The service is bad all round. About 2 months ago my flight to Tunis was cancelled due to the airport there being closed. I'm still waiting to receive a refund from EgyptAir.

Egypt Air!
I feel bad for Egypt Air being ranked on the list. Truth is: Part of the problem YES is Egypt Air. In general the planes are not clean. I use Lufthansa among other airlines, and their planes feels like they just came out of the factory and I know they are older than Egypt air planes. Egypt Air planes feel old, and the rest I agree with report. The other part of the problem are the Egyptian passengers. They cause havoc on the planes. They do not listen. They all think they are important. They wash for prayer in the tiny bathroom, and I will leave the rest to the readers imagination on what that little tiny bathroom will look like after that. I hope this all changes soon. I like Egypt air!

Can't be Right
This "ranking" just doesn't ring true. Based on experiences over more than 22 years, I've always found Egyptair to be a perfectly acceptable carrier. Cabin crew have been friendly and helpful, the aircraft themselves have been comfortable and clean and services have been very good for timekeeping. A delay caused by sandstorms in Aswan has been the only real problem I've ever encountered, and the airline couldn't do enough to make our enforced stay in Luxor as pelasant as possible, under the circumstances. Whilst some things could be improved; as is the case with most things in life, the new fleet acquisitions show that and, Egyptair is making genuine efforts to address these. I continue to look forward to taking my next Egyptair flights at the earliest opportunity.
