Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr will head to Doha on Friday to participate in a ministerial meeting for countries supporting the Syrian rebels, foreign ministry spokesman Badr Abd-Elaty announced on Thursday.
According to Abd-Elaty, the meeting will discuss the recent developments in Syria, and seek to develop a common vision for a solution.
"The meeting will present the results of talks between Egypt and several sides within the Syrian opposition in an attempt at unifying them and giving them any support needed," the spokesman added.
The meeting comes a few weeks before scheduled Geneva talks on Syria.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi announced Saturday that Egypt was severing ties with the Syrian regime led by Bashar Al-Assad. In his speech, Morsi announced that the "Egyptian people and army are supporting the Syrian uprising."
