Cairo Criminal Court has ordered the retrial of former prime minister Ahmed Nazif on corruption charges.

Nazif was accused in April 2011 of awarding a LE92 million contract for the manufacture of licence plates to a German firm without putting it up for public tender as stipulated by law.

Former interior minister Habib El-Adly and former finance minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali are being retried over the same matter.

In the original trial Nazif received a one-year suspended sentence.

The retrial was ordered after El-Adly appealed the verdict in the first trial.

Nazif, who was prime minister from 2004 until 2011, will be retried on 27 July.
