The arrest of new suspects in connection to Sunday's sectarian lynchings incident bring the number Of detained to 22

South Giza prosecution ordered Wednesday the arrest of six new suspects in connection to the lynching of five Shias in Zawyat Abu Musalam village, following other arrests related to the same incident.

Investigations into the incident have led to the arrest of 22 suspects. Among the charges suspects face are murder, arson, attempted murder, resisting arrest and sabotage.

A mob of hundreds gathered Sunday in Zawyat Abu Musalam, a Giza village, outside a house where a number of Shias met. The mob ransacked and torched the house, before beating and dragging a number of Shias.

The attack left five Egyptian Shias dead and several injured, heightening fears of sectarian strife in Egypt.
