Nine MPs declared their resignation from the Shura Council Saturday at an anti-Morsi Rebel campaign press conference held at the Press Syndicate.

The resignations come one day before mass rallies expected to take place at the presidential palace in Cairo's Heliopolis district against President Mohamed Morsi, demanding he step down and early presidential elections are held.

The 30 June demonstrations were first called for by the Rebel campaign, which declared it has so far collected more than 20 million signatures for withdrawing confidence from the president.

On Friday, Islamists in support of Morsi held mass rallies at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in Nasr City. Opponents of the president also took to the streets, filling Tahrir Square as thousands more protested in Egypt’s different governorates.
