A military source has denied media reports about the details of a proposed roadmap for Egypt at the end of the 48-hour deadline on Wednesday afternoon.
The source told Reuters on Wednesday that the military’s next step would include inviting well-known public figures, politicians and economic experts to tailor a roadmap for Egypt after Morsi leaves. He did not clarify any further what other steps may be taken.
On Monday, the Egyptian Armed Forces issued a televised statement giving Egyptian political forces 48 hours to "fulfill the people's demands," otherwise it would present a military-enforced political "roadmap" for the country that would include all political currents.
Since the announcement was made, speculation has been rife as to what this roadmap will include, with several media outlets publishing possible scenarios.
One such scenario published in Al-Ahram daily newspaper on Wednesday, stipulated that the army would dissolve Egypt’s newly drafted constitution, create a presidential council headed by the president of the Supreme Constitutional Court, establish a temporary government headed by a military official and initiate preparations for early presidential elections.
The statement came after millions of Egyptians took to the street on 30 June to demand that President Morsi steps down from power.
The deadline ends at 4:30 Wednesday.
