Egypt’s presidency issued a statement on Wednesday re-affirming their commitment to the road map announced by President Mohamed Morsi in his midnight Tuesday speech, which included the formation of a coalition government and a committee for amending the constitution.

The statement warned of what it described as "an alternative scenario" that is being imposed on the people.

"This is a scenario that the Egyptian people who filled the streets did not agree on," read the statement, adding that the "scenario" will probably disturb institution building.

It also warned that the violation of constitutional legitimacy is a threat to democracy and to the period of free expression that Egypt has experienced since the January 25 Revolution.

"Legitimacy is the only way to guarantee stability and to defy violence, thuggery and law-breaking," added the statement.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s army is expected to deliver a statement regarding its political road map as the Monday ultimatum giving Morsi and opponents 48 hours to reach consensus has expired.

Defence Minister Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is meeting with the armed forces' general commanders in addition to Egyptian political forces to discuss recent developments.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters and opponents to the president remain in the streets, with numbers expected to increase as the day progresses.
