The leader of the Salafists' Nour party, Younis Makhioun, denies on his official Facebook page reports that he met with US Ambassador Anne Patterson earlier Wednesday.
Rumours and news reports spread in Egyptian media that the Salafist Party leader and top members met secretly with the US ambassador - both of whom are seeing severe criticism lately - in Cairo to present themselves as an alternative to the Muslim Brotherhood.
"Some media outlets accuse the Nour Party of meeting with the US ambassador; I assure you it is not true" said the Salafist party leader.
Currently, the Nour party is being widely criticised by non-Islamist political forces and parties for rejecting Mohamed ElBaradei and Ziad Bahaa El Din for prime minister because they are liberals and insist that a nonpartisan figure head a technocratic cabinet.
US Ambassador Anne Patterson has also been highly criticised by anti-Morsi and anti- Brotherhood protesters, who believe she favours the Muslim Brotherhood and supports the ousted president without regard to the wellbeing of Egyptians, which has fuelled some anti-US sentiment.
