Egypt's deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, who faces prosecution, is likely to be transferred to the same Cairo prison where former autocrat Hosni Mubarak is now held, the interior minister said Saturday.

Mohamed Ibrahim said a decision on where to hold Morsi pending investigations would be up to the investigating judge. When pressed by journalists about where Morsi would be taken, he said "mostly likely to Tora" prison.

Since his removal by the military 3 July following nationwide mass protests, Morsi had been held by the army incommunicado at an undisclosed location.

On Friday, a top Egyptian court ordered the detention of Morsi for 15 days pending investigations into "suspected collaboration" with Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

Several legal complaints accusing Morsi of murder and other crimes have been submitted to the general prosecutor since his ouster.
