Deposed president Hosni Mubarak has been released from Tora Prison Hospital Thursday and transferred to Cairo's Maadi Military Hospital, judicial sources told Ahram Online.

According to the sources the deposed autocrat, toppled from power after an uprising in 2011, has made a personal request to be transferred to the hospital.

He was granted release Wednesday by an appeals court hearing in connection to one of the criminal cases against him. The court decision overturns the last detention order that would have kept him in prison, after orders connected to other cases exceeded the maximum two-year remand period.

Fearing angering Egyptians who took to Tahrir Square in January 2011 for 18 days to demand Mubarak resign, interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi, acting Wednesday night in his capacity as deputy military commander under emergency law, ordered Mubarak be placed under house arrest in the event of his release.

Mubarak is thus expected to remain in the Maadi Military Hospital under strict security.

Although Mubarak is released from prison he is still being prosecuted, including on charges of killing peaceful protesters in the 2011 uprising.

His travel ban will remain in effect, prohibiting him from leaving the country.
