The police death toll from political turmoil unleashed by a mid-August crackdown on Islamists has climbed to 121, the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

More than a thousand others have been injured in over a month of deadly unrest since security forces cleared two protest camps in Cairo and Giza set up by loyalists of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Those killed include 29 police officers, 40 policemen, 51 conscripts and one civil servant.

Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the army on 3 July amid mass protests against his one-year rule, plunging the country into deep political unrest.
