At least ten members of the 50-member constitutional draft committee announced that they will not participate on the committee until the detained protesters arrested Tuesday afternoon during the protest against military trials for civilians are released.
These members include Mohamed Abla, Ahmed Eid, Amr Salah, Hoda El-Sada, Mahmoud Badr, Khaled Youssef, Mosaad Aboul-Fagr, Hussein Abdel Razek, Sayed Hegab, and Diaa Rashwan.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 52 protesters were arrested on Tuesday afternoon for protesting illegally, in accordance with the new protest law.
News reports suggest that a number of protesters were detained in the garden of the Shura Council, where the constitutional draft committee holds session.
Several political groups and movements organized demonstrations on Tuesday evening to protest an article of the constitution that will allow civilians to be tried in military courts.
Security forces quickly dispersed the protest, arresting a number of protesters, including prominent activists and journalists.
