Egyptian presidency declares national mourning for the death of Nelson Mandela

Egypt's interim president announces a national mourning period from Friday through Sunday to commemorate late African leader Nelson Mandela

Interim President Adly Mansour issued a presidential decree announcing 3 days of national mourning, from Friday, 6 December until Sunday, 8 December, to commemorate the death of former South Africa leader Nelson Mandela.

In a press statement Ahmed El Muslimani, the media advisor to interim president Adly Mansour, mourned the late African leader's passing, describing him as a symbol of "freedom, national independence and liberation."

Mandela died Thursday evening at the age of 95.
