Egyptian Minister of Interior Mansour El Eissawy confirms that police will not return to university campuses.

In today’s meeting El Eissawy stated to several university professors, who are also members of the 9 March Group for the Independence of Egypt’s Universities, that the ministry respects the judicial ruling that police must evacuate campuses.

The minister commented that Egypt’s police also respects the importance of the independence of universities.

On 23 October the Supreme Administrative Court of Egypt upheld a verdict to remove police from the universities because they are known throughout Egypt to use heavy-handed tactics against civilians and students.
