The Egyptian Social Democratic Party (ESDP) of interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi intends to form an election alliance with the liberal Wafd Party.
The official decision will be announced at the beginning of February, Atef Adly, a senior party member, told Al-Ahram Arabic news website on Tuesday.
The liberal Free Egyptians Party might join the alliance – probably after the election law is issued, he added.
The ESDP is open to other groups joining the alliance, he said, with the exception of groups linked to the Mubarak regime and the Muslim Brotherhood.
The ESDP, the Wafd and the Free Egyptians all called for a "yes" vote in the recent constitution referendum
While the Brotherhood, ejected from power in July, has faced a violent crackdown and boycotted the referendum, most liberal and leftist parties supported the charter, as did the Islamist Salafist Nour Party.
The date of parliamentary polls is yet to be decided. According to the transition roadmap parliamentary and presidential polls will follow the approval of the constitution.
