A low-ranking police officer was killed on Thursday night in the city of Arish in North Sinai, Reuters' Aswat Masriya reported.
Security sources told Aswat Masriya that Saad Lotfi Abdel-Hadi, 39, was shot by unknown assailants on his way home late last Thursday.
Aswat Masriya reported that Abdel-Hadi worked at the Rafah border crossing with Gaza and that he was shot twice. He was transferred to Arish general hospital to receive treatment but died from his wounds there.
Since the ousting of president Mohamed Morsi last July more than 175 members of the security forces have been killed in North Sinai in attacks by militants.
