Virgin Mary church in Giza was cordoned off while police investigated a suspicious package

Security forces cordoned off the Virgin Mary church in Giza on Sunday after a suspicious object was discovered.

After inspections, the object was found to be a red brick wrapped in duct tape with wires poking out.

Thousands of Egyptian Christians are celebrating Palm Sunday.

Bombing attempts have become frequent following the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 amid mass protests against his rule.

Most attacks have targeted police and army targets.
