A bomb exploded in Greater Cairo's Lebanon Square killing a police officer stationed in a traffic box inside the square, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.

Another officer was injured.

Eye-witnesses said the bomb was thrown off a bridge that passes through the square by assailants riding a motorcycle who then fled, Al-Ahram said.

Police forces have cordoned off the area and explosives experts are investigating the scene.
