More than half of the rural areas in Egypt have no sewage systems, which is is a major factor in the spread of waterborne diseases and causes air pollution in villages when raw sewage is exposed.
Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly told Reuters that he plans to bring sewage treatment to 50 percent of rural areas, up from the current figure of 15 percent.
