On 20 February, writer Ahmed Najy was sentenced by a Cairo court to two years in prison for publishing a “sexually flagrant literary work."
In defence of Najy, Al-Tanweer Publishing House in Cairo held a press conference on Wednesday to condemn these actions, charging that the government does not respect freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution.
Writers, intellectuals, artists, and a number of human rights organisations have expressed solidarity with Najy.
