El-Orman public garden was built during the reign of Khedive Ismail in 1875 to provide the royal palace with different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
It was designed by French landscape architects.
Located close to Cairo University and Giza Zoo, the park is said to hold over 600 different types of plants, of which 140 are among the rarest in the world.
Orman has been a favourite shooting set for numerous classic Egyptian films.
The garden holds an annual spring flower market in April.
