Picture of the day: Mesaharati wakes Egyptians for sohour meal in Cairo

Muhammad al-Tunsi, a 45-year-old "mesaharati," or dawn caller bangs his drum and chants to wake people up for night-time sohour meal before sunrise, during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, at El-Moez Street in historical Fatimid Cairo, Egypt, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 (AP)

Observant Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset for the entire month of Ramadan. A single sip of water or a puff of a cigarette is enough to invalidate the fast.
