On Sunday 27 November, the Egyptian-Armenian folkloric troupe Sardarabad performed at Cairo's Houssaper Theatre.

Founded in 1972 by Shakeh Hovaghimian, the troupe works under the umbrella of the 70-year-old Houssaper Cultural Association.

Their performance showcased the third generation of the troupe's talents, young artists born and raised in Egypt and trained by Sardarabad's artistic director and choreographer Mariam Karapetyan.

Karapetyan, who was born in Armenia, moved to Egypt in 2011 and is currently working with the Cairo Opera Ballet Company.

The programme of the performance at the Houssaper Theatre commemorated two occasions; the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and Silver Jubilee of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia.
