Icarus, directed and choreographed by Walid Aouni (who also designed scenography for the show), was staged by the Egyptian Modern Dance Theatre Company at the Cairo Opera House on 3 and 4 April.

The performance paralled the celebrations for the Modern Dance Theatre Company’s silver jubilee. Within this context, Walid Aouni, the founder and first choreographer and director of the troupe, has been honored for his years-long contribution to Egypt's artistic scene.

Throughout his career, Aouni has directed more than 25 shows for the Egyptian Modern Dance Theatre Company, as well as many ceremonies for the ministry of culture and the ministry of defence.

He has also contributed to various other national celebrations in Egypt.

Icarus was the troupe's first performance staged when the Modern Dance Theatre Company was launched back in 1993.
