Professor of Islamic studies to give two public lectures at the AUC in March

Adam Sabra will lecture on Ottoman Egypt and Sufism in two public lectures delivered in Cairo next month

The Arab and Islamic Civilisations Department at the American University in Cairo (AUC) will host Dr Adam Sabra, professor and holder of the King Abdel Aziz Ibn Saud Chair of Islamic Studies at the University of California, on March 8 and10, to give two public lectures.

The first lecture will be on Sunday 8 March at the Oriental Hall, AUC, Tahrir Square Campus, and will commence at 6:00pm. The lecture is titled "The Family and the State in Ottoman Egypt: The Bakriyya as an example," and will be delivered in Arabic.

The second lecture will be delivered in English and will be held on Tuesday 10 March at the Oriental Hall, AUC, Tahrir Square Campus at 6:00pm. It is titled "Sufism and Political Theory in the Late Middle Ages."

Programme:

Sunday 8 March, at the Oriental Hall, AUC, Tahrir Square Campus at 6:00pm: "The Family and the State in Ottoman Egypt: The Bakriyya as an example."

Tuesday 10 March 2015, the Oriental Hall, AUC, Tahrir Square Campus at 6:00pm: "Sufism and Political Theory in the Late Middle Ages."
