A statement from the Egyptian Publishers Association (EPA) confirmed that the Alex Book and Info-Tech Fair had not declared a guest of honour, further stating that they would not name one that has political objectives.

This statement was made to deny media reports that the Islamist Salafist party, Al-Nour, is the fair’s guest of honour.

The EPA stated that the General Egyptian Book Organisation and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria Library) are also fair sponsors, whose role is limited to organising cultural symposiums and the artistic programme accompanying the fair. They added that the fair is organised by Alexandria International Book Fair Company and sponsored by the EPA.

The statement asserted that the fair is an outlet for exhibiting Egyptian publishers’ materials as a result of cancelling the January 2011 Cairo International and March 2011 Bibliotheca Alexandria Book Fairs due to the revolution.
