Secretary-General of the Egyptian Scientific Institute Mohammed El-Sharnouby, announced during a press conference yesterday the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Badran as president of the Egyptian Scientific Institute, succeeding late Professor Mahmoud Hafez, 99, who passed away last Friday.
El-Sharnouby also announced the appointment of Professor Ismail Sedrageldin as Badran’s deputy.
Badran, a former minister of health and former director of Cairo University, was awarded the Honourable Order for Arts and Science by France in 1983.
Serageldin has been director general of the Library of Alexandria since its opening in 2002, and former vice president the World Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Cairo University, and a PhD from Harvard University and has received over 20 honorary doctorates.
