The Alexandria and Mediterranean Civilisation Studies Centre at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will launch the new book Hekayet Wathika (The Story of a Document: Selection of Alexandria Sharia Court in the Ottoman era 1517-1801) on Monday 9 July at 7pm.

The book comprises a rare selection of documents from the Alexandria Sharia Court, which shed light on the city and its Egyptian, Arab and foreign habitants.

The documents also give detailed accounts of the history of the city throughout three centuries of Ottoman rule, from 1517 until 1801.

The book is authored by Ayman Ahmed Mahmoud, an assistant professor of history at Suez University's the Faculty of Arts.

The launch will be held at the BA Conference Centre.
