At least 31 people were killed when an explosion ripped through a busy market in the northeast Nigerian city of Yola, an emergency official said on Friday.

"So far, we have 31 dead victims and 38 people in hospital receiving treatment" as a result of the late Thursday blast, National Emergency Management Agency coordinator in the city Sa'ad Bello told AFP.
