One civilian was killed and a district official from the ruling AK Party was injured when Kurdish militants opened fire on their car in eastern Turkey, security sources said on Saturday.

The attack happened after a car carrying the two victims refused to stop at a roadblock thrown up by fighters from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the militants opened fire in the Semdinli district of Hakkari province, close to Turkey's borders with Iraq and Iran.

The attack is the latest in a litany of violence that has swept eastern Turkey since the collapse of a ceasefire between the PKK and the government in July.

Separately, a girl who was caught in the crossfire when PKK militants attacked a police station in the town of Tunceli in eastern Turkey on Friday, died of her injuries, security forces said on Saturday.
