Two Palestinians were shot in the occupied West Bank on Friday by the occupation forces after alleged stabbing attempt, one of whom was shot dead while the other was wounded by Israeli fire, Israeli police said.

Israeli forces spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said on Twitter that one of them was shot dead and the other shot and captured, claiming that they were armed with knives.

Israeli occupation authorities have arrested more than 1,000 Palestinians and Arab Israelis since the October 1 surge in violence, out of which 221 arrests took place in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoners Club statement last Sunday.

Palestinians have been protesting for weeks against Israel's attempts to build more settlements in east Jerusalem and force out Arab residents of the city that is meant to be a capital for any future Palestinian state.

The current wave of protests and repression started in late July when 18-month old toddler Ali Dawabsha was burned to death and three other Palestinians severely injured after their house in the occupied West Bank was set on fire by Israeli settlers.

Since the start of this month, more than 54 Palestinians have died in protests or at checkpoints. Meanwhile, eight Israelis have been killed.
