The agreement reached Tuesday by four senior Libyan leaders to hold elections in December is "an essential step toward reconciliation" in the war-torn country, President Emmanuel Macron said.

The gathering of the rival leaders at a peace conference at the Elysee Palace in Paris was "a historic meeting" that had the support of "the entire international community", he said at a press conference.
