Members of Qatar's Al-Ghufran tribe said on Thursday they have been subjected to injustice for the past 22 years at the hands of Qatari regime, which stripped them off their nationality and rights.

In a press conference held in Geneva at the Swiss Press Club on the sidelines of the 39th session of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), members of Al-Ghufran tribe spoke about systematic human rights violations practiced against them from 1996 until now.

The members of the tribe spoke on how they had lost their jobs while their children were forcibly removed from schools and banned them from education. They were also prevented from accessing civil rights or health care. In a final blow to the tribal community, the Qatari government stripped them off their Qatari nationality and deported them from the country.

"The Qatari regime began its discrimination against all the members of Al-Ghufran tribe after the arrest 21 officers who were member of tribe for their attempt to restore the rule of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad after the coup of Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa " said Jaber Saleh Al-Ghufrany, a leading figure in the tribe.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa is the father of Qatar's current role Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

"The Qatari regime released members of other tribes who were against the coup afterwards but only the Ghufran tribe remained to suffer from humiliation and discrimination" he added.

The Al-Ghufran delegation met with Mohamed Al-Nsour, chief of the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commission (OHCHR) Middle East and North Africa Section, earlier on Monday in Geneva to hand him a letter that detailed the tribe's sufferings since 1996.

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights is currently adopting the case of the Ghufran to assist in them being able to regain their rights.
