French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday said anger in the country is deep and justified and over the last 18 months have not been able to give response to malaise of last 40 years.
"I know that some of what he has said hurt people but belives can find a way out of current problems" he said
He pledged to increase in social security tax for pensioners earings less than 1000 euros a month in 2019 and raise the minimum wage by 100 euros per month from January but won't reinstate the wealth tax, will fight tax fraud as he sought to respond to a wave of protests that have challenged his authority.
"We will respond to the economic and social urgency with strong measures, by cutting taxes more rapidly, by keeping our spending under control, but not with U-turns," Macron said in a TV address to the nation.
