Algeria's presidency announced on Sunday the appointment of a new caretaker cabinet with Noureddine Bedoui remaining as prime minister, as the North African country continues to see mass demonstrations against the 20-year-old rule of President AbdelAziz Boutefleika.

Sabri Boukadoum was appointed as foreign minister replacing Ramtane Lamamra, Mohamed Loukal as new finance minister and Mohamed Arkab as new energy minister in the new government.

The new cabinet will be comprised of 27 ministers, including six previous ministers.

President Abdelaziz Boutefleika maintains the position of the minister of defence in the new cabinet.

General Ahmed Gaeid Saleh remains chief of staff of the armed forces and deputy minister of defence.
