Turkey on Thursday announced it was extending its controversial east Mediterranean gas exploration mission by an extra five days until next Tuesday.

Ankara dispatched the Oruc Reis research vessel and warships to waters claimed by Greece on August 10 and prolonged the mission once last Sunday, further escalating crisis. It had been due pull out of the region on Thursday.
