An Arab League delegation headed by the bloc's chief will visit the Gaza Strip on Tuesday in a show of support for the occupied Strip in the face of Israeli air strikes, a league official said on Sunday.

"The Arab ministerial delegation formed by the Arab foreign ministerial council will visit Gaza on Tuesday, headed by Nabil al-Arabi," the official said in a statement received by AFP.

Arab foreign ministers decided during an emergency meeting in Cairo on Saturday to send the delegation to the enclave, where more than 50 Palestinians have been killed over five days of Israeli bombardment. Three Israelis have also been killed by a rocket fired by militants in Gaza.

A separate delegation headed by Saad al-Katatni, the leader of the Islamist Freedom and Justice Party which fielded President Mohamed Morsi in last June's election in Egypt, will travel to Gaza on Monday, an FJP spokesman said.

That delegation will also include other Egyptian political figures, Ahmed Sobea told AFP.

Morsi sent his prime minister, Hisham Qandil, on a solidarity visit to the Palestinian territory neighbouring Egypt on Friday.
