Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud-Beitenu list was the top vote getter in Tuesday's election but the rightwing combination was weakened by a strong showing by the centrist Yesh Atid, according to TV exit polls.
Results published by Israel's Channel 2 as the polls closed at 2000 GMT showed Netanyahu's Likud-Beitenu list winning 31 mandates in the 120-seat Knesset, followed by the secular Yesh Atid with 19, the centre-right Labour party with 17 and the far-right religious nationalist Jewish Home with 12.
The ultra-Orthodox parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism, won 12 and six seats, respectively. The centrist HaTnuah of former foreign minister Tzipi Livni won seven, as did the leftwing Meretz faction.
The polls gave the three main Arab-Israeli parties nine seats, with four for Arab-Jewish socialist Hadash, three for the Arab nationalist Ram Tal and two for the secular Balad faction.
