The head of Hamas' political bureau Khaled Meshaal is expected to announce the acceptance of a ceasefire with Israel in the Qatari capital Doha, a source close to Meshaal told Ahram Online.

The source – who spoke to Hamas leading figure Sami Abu Zuhri – revealed that the spokesman of the Islamist movement said that Hamas preferred a ceasefire which involves Turkey.

The source added that Hamas is considering other initiatives in the meantime, including the Egyptian proposal.

The measures and details of the deal, which Meshaal will reveal in his speech, are exactly the same as those included in the Egyptian ceasefire proposed last week, the source added.

So far, no official declarations have been unveiled from Hamas or Israel over ending the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

Over 670 Palestinians – most of them civilians, according to rights groups – have been killed since Israel launched a military offensive against Gaza 16 days over. Over 30 Israeli soldiers have been killed.
