Tens of unemployed youths staged a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Labour in the Jordanian capital Amman.

The demonstrators carried signs that called for justice and shouted slogans stressing their constitutional right to work and their rights as humans to live a dignified life.

Members of the sit-in announced the launching of the “Jordanian Coalition for the Unemployed,” which would try to stop policies that marginalise the youth and impoverish Jordanians, in addition to raising the minimum wage.

The sit-in comprised elements from the Jayeen (we are coming) movement, the Assembly for Union Workers, the Communist Coalition, the Social Leftist Movement and the national campaign for the removal of the official trade union in Jordan.

A recent official statistical report in Jordan put the unemployment rate at 12.5 per cent last year.
