The United Nations called on Thursday on the Egyptian authorities to open Rafah border crossing to help the Palestinians in Gaza, Sky News Arabia reported.

Egypt has closed the crossing since a deadly attack by Islamist militants on Egyptian soldiers took place in North Sinai in October 2014.

It opened the crossing to the Hamas-controlled and Israel-besieged strip twice since then; in a two day period starting 26 November and a three day period starting 21 December.
