Jerusalem police said on Sunday that they had closed offices suspected of links to the Islamist Hamas movement which rules Gaza and expected to make arrests.

Israel Police spokeswoman Luba Simmari said detectives closed the premises of the Heritage Committee in the east Jerusalem neighbourhood of Wadi Joz after it breached an existing closure order.

"It is the intention of the police to arrest suspects responsible for reopening it," she told AFP. "It was run by Hamas... Hamas is forbidden to work in east Jerusalem."
