A human rights activist says Syrian forces have opened fire at funerals for slain political protesters, leaving two people dead

Rami Abdul-Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Sunday that two people were killed Saturday in al-Kaswa, a suburb of the Syrian capital.
Forces opened fire after mourners streaming from funerals began protesting against the rule of President Bashar Assad.

The Syrian opposition says some 1,400 people have been killed as the government has cracked down on the movement demanding an end to four decades of autocratic Assad family rule.

Abdul-Rahman says one person was also killed Saturday in Damascus' Barzeh neighborhood and two were killed in the village of al-Quseir.
