A 17-year-old Palestinian was shot dead Monday when protesters clashed with Israeli occupation troops in the southern West bank, said police and hospital officials.

It was unclear what sparked the clashes near the flashpoint city of Hebron.

Palestinians have been angered by Tel Aviv's policies of evicting of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem, the prospective capital of a future Palestinian state, and the building of Jewish settlements.

Israel has killed more than 50 Palestinians and wounded hundreds during the month of October alone.

At least seven Israelis were killed in reported attacks by Palestinians during the month.
