Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday defended as "natural" his involvement in domestic politics after the sudden announcement the prime minister was to step down.
"Some are disturbed by me monitoring closely the developments related to the party... What can be more natural than this?" the president, who is supposed to be apolitical, said in a speech in Istanbul.
Erdogan also said a proposed presidential system, giving greater powers to the president, should be put to a referendum "as soon as possible."
