Iran marks its 31st anniversary of the Iraq-Iran war with a parade in which it displays its missiles

Iran is marking the 31st anniversary of the start of the Iraq-Iran war with a military parade and a display of the country's steadily growing arsenal of short and medium range ballistic missiles.

Like last year, Thursday's show included the solid-fuel Sajjil.

The missile, with more than 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) in range, could pose a threat to Israel and US-allied Arab nations, including some that are home to American military bases.

The show comes weeks after neighbouring Turkey agreed to host an early warning radar as part of NATO's missile defence system aimed at countering Iranian missile threats.

Washington hopes to have the radar deployed in Turkey by the end of the year.

Iran has warned such a move would escalate regional tensions.
