Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have announced that they will be sending a $3 billion assistance bundle to Sudan, reported the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on Sunday.

The assistance package includes a $500 million deposit to Sudan's central bank to support the country's monetary reserves, while the remaining amount will come in the form of food, medicine and fuel derivatives.

The last few years saw a shortage in US dollars amid an economic crisis that has hit Sudan, which saw nationwide protests that resulted in the ouster of President Omar Al-Bashir earlier this month.
