The United Nations raised the death toll in the airstrike on the migrant detention in a suburb of the Libyan capital Tripoli on Wednesday to 53, including six children, with 130 injured, and bodies reportedly being recovered from the rubble.

The Tajoura detention centre held 600 migrants at the time of the attack.

The UN and the African Union have called for an independent investigation into the strike.
