As Egypt's alleged Israeli spy is set to go on trial today, a source told Ahram Online in an exclusive interview that a Syrian spy connected to the same intelligence-ring was executed 10 days ago

As the first court session in the case of Tarek Abdel Razeq, alleged to have spied for Israel, is set to begin Monday in Egypt, a Syrian diplomatic source revealed to Ahram Online that a Syrian spy caught in the same operation was executed 10 days ago.

Speaking to Ahram Online, the Syrian source claimed that the sentence was carried out after the defendant Saleh Al-Nejm's guilt was allegedly corroborated by evidence and a confession.

The source added that Al-Nejm was a security official who occupied a significant and sensitive role in the Syrian apparatus and denied media reports that claimed he worked in a military gym.

The investigation is still ongoing in security and military circles and in the nuclear energy establishment.

Cairo and Damascus, according to the source, retain a close intelligence relationship whereby Egypt hands Syria complete case files and vice versa.
