Iran's foreign affairs spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has expressed hope that an agreement on Iran's nuclear programme might be reached during the next round of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the G-15.
Mehmanparast underlined that recent negotiations with the IAEA were positive, as did IAEA representatives, who said discussions were both positive and constructive.
Mehmanparast stated: "One of the most important points during the upcoming negotiations is that the right of Iran's people to have peaceful nuclear energy is acknowledged. And if there are fears in regard to Iran owning energy, then we are ready to dispel them."
He added that the subject of negotiations with the IAEA revolves around technical and legal matters and has nothing to do with the negotiations to be held with the 5+1 Group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China, in addition to Germany).
Mehmasparast highlighted that Iran's discussions with the 5+1 Group is of a political nature, adding that the group is pursuing a policy of systematically pressuring the Iranian people in order to reach certain goals, which impedes reaching agreement.
Mehmanparast ended by saying: "The negotiations with the 5+1 Group are not limited to the nuclear file. It is likely that other subjects will also be discussed, in particular Syria."
Mehmanparast said yesterday during a weekly press conference that the location and date of Iran's negotiations with the 5+1 Group about Iran's nuclear programme will be announced as soon as a final agreement is reached with regards to the programme. He also repeated his advice to the West that they should conduct negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme in a logical manner.
International powers, led by the 5+1 Group, accuse Iran of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear power programme.
